2022-03-11T13:52:51.505Z

Germany is in a "critical" health situation due to the further increase in the number of Covid-19 cases.

The Minister of Health in Germany, Karl Lauterbach has just sounded the alarm on the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

He even judged the situation to be “critical”.

“I often read that the Omicron variant is a less virulent variant.

This is only partially true, ”he warned, recalling that 249 people died in the country on Thursday.

The Minister of Health is worried about a possible future congestion of intensive care services and the multiplication of long Covid cases.

“The situation is objectively much worse than the general atmosphere,” he added, lamenting that “the state of mind of the population and part of the political landscape is that we would have brought the pandemic under control.

Germany, which plans to ease a number of restrictions from March 20, recorded more than 250,000 new Covid-19 cases on Friday and the seven-day incidence rate exceeds 1,400. cases and incidence are increasing again (…).

In many districts, the incidence is still above 2,000, or even 2,500, ”explains Lothar Wieler, director of the Robert Koch health monitoring institute.

Without a general compulsory vaccination, we will not be able to control the pandemic in the fall”

“We cannot be satisfied with a situation where 200 to 250 people die every day” with the risk that the balance sheet will worsen further in the coming weeks, resumes Karl Lauterbach.

The Minister of Health revived the subject of compulsory vaccination.

"Without a general compulsory vaccination, we will not be able to control the pandemic in the fall", adds Karl Lauterbach.

In Germany, 75% of the whole population is vaccinated in Germany and 57% received a booster dose.

This text on the vaccination obligation promised by Olaf Scholz for the end of 2021 should intervene in early April in Parliament.

Compulsory vaccination remains controversial.

Austria, which was the first country in the European Union to adopt this measure in February, finally suspended it this week.
