Many people unknowingly commit themselves to prosecution when disposing of household waste.

However, this can get quite expensive.

But even those who are particularly meticulous about separating waste may regularly commit an administrative offence, as RUHR24* reports.

Some consumers do not know the rules of waste separation*, but that is by no means the only problem.

This offense is the so-called "stamping of rubbish", which usually takes place before the bins are picked up.

The contents are properly compressed so that the last bit can still be squeezed in.

But one or the other likes to get into the bin - at least when it comes to paper waste.

However, if you want to make it particularly easy for yourself, you might come up with the idea of ​​using a garbage compactor.

Sellers of the device advertise that consumers can save up to 500 euros in waste fees a year.

There, suppliers rave about their products in the ads.

According to one seller, the trash tamper can reduce volume by 75 percent, helping to “save space and disposal costs.”

But that shouldn't be all.

The device should also ensure a clean and environmentally friendly environment.

What initially sounds like a great offer is not necessarily worth it.

Because instead of saving money, the rubbish pounders have to pay extra – if they get caught.

Because in many communities it is expressly forbidden to "compact" household waste, i.e. to compress it (more lifehacks* at RUHR24).

Anyone who does not follow the rules must expect high fines.

As a rule, according to the consumer center, the penalty range is up to 50,000 euros, in Essen even up to 100,000 euros.

And with good reason: the overweight bins are far too heavy for the workers who pick them up.

In addition, due to the weight of the waste containers, they can tear during collection and break as a result.

Then another bill would flutter into the house.

A demolished 240-liter bin can be fined with 90 euros.

Waste separation should also be impeded by this, especially in the case of yellow bins.

The waste can hardly be poured onto the belts in sorting plants, let alone separated according to materials.

The recyclables that can no longer be taken apart end up in the residual waste.

In case of doubt, this also applies to products that have been disposed of incorrectly.

These include batteries that belong in the hazardous waste, as

knows.

It gets particularly bad for the garbage collectors and the neighbors when families with newborns press their garbage.

As soon as baby diapers are in the bin, things can get unappetizing.

In addition, squeezing is not particularly beneficial for the environment.

In any case, consumers should not throw away their rubbish in nature*, because this mistake can also be costly.

According to the consumer center, there is also a risk that press fans will worry less about avoiding waste and separating waste if they tackle the problem of the overflowing bin with the garbage compactor instead of dealing with waste production more carefully.
