The Russian Attorney General's Office calls for Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, to be recognized as an extremist organization.
This was reported by Tass citing a statement from the Prosecutor's Office.
The decision comes after Facebook and Instagram decided to lift censorship of posts against Russia.
"What Meta is doing is called 'incitement to racial hatred' which in Russian legislation qualifies as extremism," said Deputy Head of the Russian Committee on Technologies and Communications, Anton Gorelkin.
