When it gets warmer, ticks are not far either.

Pets often bring them into their own four walls.

You should be particularly careful here.

Plants are blooming, many migratory birds are returning and singing from the trees.

The arachnid loves it green and damp and likes to make itself comfortable in trees, in the forest, in the tall grass or in the undergrowth.

There the parasite waits for a suitable host, pet owners can usually sing a song about it.

They know the little black animals from their cats and dogs*, which they bring into their own four walls after a foray into the bushes or a walk on the meadow.

Ticks attach themselves to their host and feed on blood until they are saturated and fall off on their own.

But humans are not spared either: in some cases, the bloodsuckers also trigger dangerous diseases such as meningitis or Lyme disease.

A total of 175 risk areas have been identified, with southern Germany particularly affected.

In addition, six more have now been added.

These include tick hotspots such as:

  • Oberspreewald-Lausitz (Brandenburg)

  • Oder-Spree (Brandenburg)

  • Spree-Neisse (Brandenburg)

  • Chemnitz (Saxony)

  • Goerlitz (Saxony)

  • Solingen (North Rhine-Westphalia)

In order to protect yourself from the bloodsuckers*, you should therefore wear long and light-colored clothing when you are out and about in nature for a long time.

Pay particular attention to cracks or folds such as armpits, where it is damp and warm and ticks therefore feel particularly comfortable.
