Exactly two years.

This is the time that has passed since the moment that Chef Yaron Shalev's Toto restaurant closed for activity.

At first this was not an unusual matter.

Exactly two years ago, in March 2020, all restaurants in Israel were closed due to the outbreak of the corona epidemic in the country.

But a few months passed, the restaurants began to reopen, even those who waited a bit until the rage passed, finally opened, or announced that they would close completely, and only Toto's fate was not entirely clear.

Chef Yaron Shalev, imposed a silence on himself, but told relatives and friends that he intends to open again, and in a big way.

Occasionally he posted teasers on his Instagram account, shared photos of the completely ruined restaurant, and updated that it was undergoing extensive renovations, and that he was looking for employees to join him.

Toto, just to mention, was considered, right up until the moment of closure, one of the leading and most popular restaurants in Israel.

In line with restaurants like Sheila, Pronto and Taizo, and just like institutions that were and are no more, like Herbert Samuel, Raphael and Mol Yam.

Many food lovers had hoped that Toto's end would not be like that of the last three.

Well, he is not.

Without talking to the media, without a festive opening post, in the last few days, Yaron Shalev just opened his tutu.

He knew the buzz would do its thing, and he did.

You will not find a menu on the website, you can book places by phone (if they answer you), or through a link for reservations (if you can find a free place).

The restaurant is currently open Monday - Friday only, starting at 7pm.

But we still got our hands on the menu of the new Toto.

So while in terms of his bedroom design the restaurant completely, but let us reassure you about the food, Toto's favorite flagship dishes are still here.

And yes, we will not stretch you too much, we are talking about the hot pizza and the chestnut gnocchi.

Hello both.

what else?

The menu is divided into five categories - cold, pizza, pasta, sea and steakhouse, along with another menu of special dishes.

Cold dishes include whole eggplant roasted over an open fire just as you remember (that's what it's called on the menu, it's not our addition), tutu style beef tartare, thinly sliced smoked Spanish tuna, crispy vegetables, toast and homemade aioli and more.

In some of the pizzas you will find a spicy and rocket classic pizza, a salami pizza with black olives and purple onions, and a white pizza with wild mushrooms and bacon.

The pasta section has the immortal gnocchi - potato and ricotta gnocchi, salted butter, chestnuts and parmesan, as well as a veal head pepperella, and veal tail tortillas, winter vegetables and celery puree, two more dishes that are well remembered from the past.

The sea wing offers sea fish Fried whole, with vinaigrette from east to west, a Bramondi-style roast sea bar and a charcoal-grilled locus kebab. Dishes like sea fish sashimi on ice, spicy black pasta etc.

The menu, as they will notice, devout tutu customers, has not undergone too many changes. Many favorite dishes have been left and preserved, because why actually replace a winning horse?

The restaurant, however, has undergone a massive change.

The wide bar has changed its location, the kitchen is huge and open, and in general, there is really no trace of the old Toto.

It's hard not to admire the new place, the restaurant is invested, prestigious and very impressive, and the cuisine is going to arouse the envy of quite a few chefs.

Not everything was rosy for his Yaron and Toto.

In May 2014, he was fired from the restaurant, after not getting along with his then partner Yuval Snir (Bar Lehem), who had bought the restaurant several months earlier.

Shortly afterwards Chef Moshik Roth was appointed to head Toto, a connection that did not last more than a few months.

Now, he proves again, to those who tried to eulogize him, that he, and also Toto, are not going anywhere.Toto
