A Russian pilot working for Pobeda, a subsidiary of Russian Aeroflot, grabbed the microphone on the plane's crash system and condemned his country's war on Ukraine during the flight.

The pilot called for an immediate end to the Russia-Ukraine war and said: "The war in Ukraine is a crime. I think sensible citizens will agree with me and do everything to stop it."

The popular video also made its way to YouTube, where many people came in to comment to praise the pilot.

"A brave hero," wrote one respondent.

"The price of freedom that people like him are willing to pay is a testament to the world!"

Another respondent wrote: "Thank you sir for speaking. Bravo."

The video was also shared on Twitter, with one tweeter writing: "It is rare to see public opposition to the war given the implications such a statement would have."

In response, one person wrote: "He has taken a respectable position. Hopefully he will be safe after that."

Sanctions against Russia "stuck" the Russians in Thailand

Meanwhile, thousands of Russian tourists are stuck in resorts on the canopy of Thailand because of the war in Ukraine, and many are unable to pay their bills or return home due to sanctions against Russian airlines and canceled flights.

Some 6,500 Russian tourists are stranded in Phuket, Surat Thani, Krabi and Pattaya, four provinces that are popular holiday destinations on the beach, in addition to 1,000 Ukrainians, Thailand's governor Yutask Supasorn told the AP last Friday.

About 17,599 Russians made up the largest tourist bloc last February, accounting for 8.6% of the total 203,970 tourists who came to Thailand, according to the Ministry of Public Health.

After the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, their numbers dropped drastically.

According to Utask, the Russians face two main problems: cancellations of their flights home by airlines that have stopped flying to Russia, and suspension of financial services, especially by credit card companies, such as Visa or MasterCard, which have joined sanctions against Moscow.

There are also those who prefer to postpone their return.

"There are some airlines that are still flying to Russia, but travelers have to move to another country. We are trying to coordinate and look for flights for them," Yutsak said.

The crisis in Europe also led to a halt in the recovery plans of the Southeast Asian tourism industry, which hosted more tourists from Russia than any of its neighbors before the start of the corona.
