As Russian military action and bombing intensify, Ukraine's telecommunications infrastructure, vital for running the country, for internal communications and for reporting on what's going on, is also at risk.

In Karkhiv, the second largest city in Ukraine, where most of the population has left, there is a group of engineers from MaxNet, an Internet service provider that operates one of the main communications hubs.

They repair the network, which has suffered heavy damage, even at the risk of their lives.

"There are 60 employees left, including engineers who carry out repairs and workers in other tasks, they remain for personal reasons, they could not leave Kharkiv", Alla Struchaieva, CEO of MaxNet, explains to ANSA via WhatsApp.

"My family and I are safe now - she tells her - We are alive and this is the main thing. I think this war has touched all countries emotionally. To shed so much blood is a horror."

A few days ago, the Data Center Knowledge website reported the story of these engineers who after the bombings go out to repair damaged Internet cables.

After the early March bombings that heavily hit the center of the city turning it into an apocalyptic scenario, engineers repaired the network cables between the manholes, where the fire had melted them, and restored about a third of the network.

"The connections are damaged by shots and shots - says Alla Struchaieva - Our guys try to quickly restore as many areas as possible. We understand that our work is really important for people, because we provide them with information".

"MaxNet will turn 20 in April, my husband founded it in 2002, met him the following year and helped him expand the business. These employees have been with the company for over five years. They believe in the future. All of them. our team is very patriotic and remains positive. Now I have only one hope: that this nightmare will end and peace will return to our country ", concludes Struchaieva.
