(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 14 - "The use of the Taser, an electric impulse weapon, in use by the State Police operators, starts today in 7 Italian cities - Milan, Rome, Bari, Bologna, Florence, Brindisi and Reggio Calabria , Carabinieri and Guardia diFinanza who carry out prevention and control activities in the territory. A very important day awaited since 2014 when the Taser experimentation was included for the first time in the Stadium Decree ".
This was declared by Undersecretary of the Interior Nicola Molteni.
"The 4,482 electric impulse weapons that will be used, from today, by the operators - observes Molteni - represent an important instrument of defense and protection of the security and safety of our undivided men and women, increasingly exposed to risks and dangers. The Taser is an instrument of defense and not of offense,
security and non-violence.
It is an extraordinary deterrent which, as the experiment has shown, produces its efficacy simply by informing the aggressor of the weapon. "" After a careful and scrupulous experimentation initiated by Minister Matteo Salvini in 2018 and after a complete training 'last year - continues the undersecretary - finally the arrival of the taser represents a significant guarantee for the police forces, obtained also thanks to the collaboration and sharing of the State Police unions. "Now. for local police agents, the latter opportunity already foreseen in Matteo Salvini's first safety decree of 2018 ".
