Spring is here, and many gardeners are happy about it.
However, not about the pests such as aphids that wake up from hibernation in the ground.
Munich – All signs point to spring: the days are getting warmer and longer again.
New life stirs in, under and on the earth.
Now the time has come for many hobby gardeners to be more active in the garden again.
After all, there is a lot to do after the long winter months.
The plants need a lot of care in order to blossom and thrive.
But at the same time, pests are perk up again, much to the chagrin of many gardeners.
Aphids: The first hatch as early as March - this must be done now
According to this, some of them can already observe the first aphids on their roses in March.
The small insects overwinter as black eggs, which are usually laid in the ground on young shoots near the buds in the previous autumn.
When they hatch, they are looking for and urgently needing food.
They tap the plants and suck them dry.

Plant lovers often notice the aphid infestation too late, as the green to black little creatures are still developing very slowly in March.
But from the end of April, when the weather is even warmer, they can multiply rapidly.
For hobby gardeners, this means keeping a close eye on ornamental and fruit trees such as currants or cherries and checking them regularly.
As soon as the first buds sprout, aphids could not be far away.
Aphids: How to get rid of them effectively and gently
In the case of a lice infestation, the shoot tips become severely distorted and the leaves of the plants turn yellow.
In some cases, they even cripple.
Anyone who thinks they can use pesticides to get rid of the aphids is sometimes surprised when it doesn't work.
This is because the pests often hide from predators and external influences in the rolled-up leaves.
So if you have to use pesticides, it is best to fill them in spray cannulas in order to hit the animals with the spray jet and render them harmless.
If you don't want to use poison, you can substitute hot, salted potato water.
