We touch countless things every day.

Some of them are a true germ paradise.

Online retailer Lenstore has researched where most bacteria accumulate.

There are good and bad bacteria.

Our skin needs the former in order to maintain an intact protective acid mantle.

Digestion would also not function without intestinal flora.

Essential for this: microorganisms that help to metabolize the food.

But there are not only bacteria that promote health.

Pathogenic microorganisms include Escherichia coli germs, which can cause severe diarrhea.

In order to protect yourself from infection with harmful bacteria, hygiene should be a top priority

.

Above all, it is important to wash your hands regularly*, because your hands often come into contact with surfaces that are potentially contaminated with viruses and bacteria, such as handles on the subway.

The online retailer Lenstore has investigated where a particularly large number of germs roam.

According to a Lenstore press release, 19 different everyday objects were examined in an experiment.

The area under the fingernails was also examined - with shocking results.

A total of 50,430 bacteria cavort there on average.

Researchers have explained the reason for this in the journal "

Journal of Clinical Microbiology

": Moisture and protection from soap contact with fingernails would provide perfect conditions for bacteria, according to the US study.

The fingers are constantly in contact with the smartphone display, handles or other objects.

If you file your nails short and/or use a nail brush while washing your hands, you reduce the number of bacteria under your fingernails.

The following items should also be cleaned regularly.

Eldorado for bacteria: These objects are teeming with germs

Online retailer Lenstore lists where most potentially disease-causing bacteria lurk:

  • Toilet

    - average number of bacteria detected: 2,856

  • Glasses

    - average number of bacteria detected: 1,277

  • Foundation brush

    - average number of bacteria detected: 1,176

  • Mouth and nose protection

    - average number of bacteria detected: 424

For comparison: only 38 bacteria were counted on the smartphone display.

The Lenstore analysis did not distinguish between harmless and dangerous bacteria.

However, as the microbiome load increases, so does the risk that pathogens are present.

The following therefore applies:

Clean the toilet, glasses and make-up brushes regularly and thoroughly and do not wear your mouth and nose protection for too long

.
