'The Walking Dead' star on spin-off announcement: 'It came as a shock to me'

AMC recently announced that there will be another The Walking Dead spin-off.
The American broadcaster didn't just surprise the fans with this.
"Isle of the Dead" is the name of the next and meanwhile sixth spin-off from the "The Walking Dead" universe*.
The series will revolve around the two characters Negan and Maggie from the main series and will take place in post-apocalyptic New York.
The former metropolis is isolated from the mainland due to the destruction of the bridges and tunnels - now the undead are up to mischief here too.
Not only fans were surprised by the announcement of the new spin-off in March – even Negan actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, according to his own statements, did not expect it.

I'm sorry!" Morgan said on journalist Rich Eisen's podcast.

As Walking Dead fans know all too well, the parent show is in the middle of airing its final season.
With the announcement of the Negan and Maggie spin-off, it's now clear that both characters will survive - so there's no excitement for fans.

"I really wish they would stop announcing more spinoffs," wrote one Twitter user.
“Now we know they are safe in the main series.
I miss it when The Walking Dead was totally surprising and interesting.”
Another user wrote: "It's disrespectful to the fans of the series to announce a spinoff with existing characters before it's finished.

In principle, all the important characters in the main series are safe from serial death.
The finale of the 11th and final season will be released in April 2022. It remains to be seen whether fan interest will remain until then.
