Anyone who falls ill with the corona virus usually also receives continued wages.

But does this also apply to unvaccinated people?

During the global pandemic with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, many people fell ill with Covid-19.

In Germany, employees who are ill receive continued wages* under certain conditions in order to prevent financial losses due to their illness.

Does this apply to all Corona-positive employees - or only to those vaccinated with a booster vaccination?

Continued payment of wages for corona-positive people: when is there compensation?

If

an employee's corona test

is positive, they must be isolated immediately and, with a few exceptions, not leave their home so as not to infect anyone.

Visiting is now taboo.

If the employee shows

symptoms

of a Covid disease such as cough, runny nose or fever, the doctor can give him sick leave.

Even if the corona test is positive without symptoms, the doctor can issue a certificate of incapacity for work (AU) if the employee would have to leave their home for their work.

The National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV) points this out.

With the issued sick note, employees then receive the regular continued payment of wages from their employer in the event of illness - regardless of the vaccination status.

For the continued payment of wages in the event of illness, it does not matter whether you are vaccinated, boosted or not vaccinated.

As long as there is

no general obligation to vaccinate

in Germany, "even an employee who has not been vaccinated voluntarily will continue to receive his salary as part of the statutory continued payment of wages in the event of illness," explains Katja Giese, a specialist lawyer for labor law, in an interview with the

Süddeutsche Zeitung

In this case, people who have tested positive must work

Anyone who is in isolation because of a positive PCR test is not automatically unable to work.

If

there are no symptoms

(which would justify an AU, see above)

and working from home is possible

, employees are obliged to work.

In this case, the employer pays the regular salary.

Unvaccinated people in quarantine are not entitled to continued wages

However, anyone who is not ill with Corona, but only has to be

in quarantine ordered by

the authorities, has

no right to continued payment of wages as an unvaccinated person

.

This has been regulated nationwide since November 1, 2021.

This does not apply to employees who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons.

In Bavaria, even a booster vaccination is required for the compensation payment*.

There is currently a quarantine obligation for unvaccinated people

  • Close contact person

    of Corona-positive or

  • Travelers returning

from high-risk areas or virus variant areas.

Anyone

who is able to work from home in quarantine

will of course receive their regular salary.
