Many employees have to be in quarantine during the corona pandemic.

But do you also get a certificate of incapacity for work?

And what about the continued payment of wages?

When people complain of symptoms of illness that indicate infection with the coronavirus, also known as SARS-CoV-2, those affected are usually advised to stay at home.

The health department

often even orders a quarantine

, for example if you have had contact with a laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patient.

But will I then be given sick leave by the doctor with a certificate of incapacity for work (AU) if I have to go into quarantine?

In fact, it depends on whether or not the person is ill and complaining of symptoms such as a runny nose, fever or a mild sore throat.

According to the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV)

, the doctor may issue a certificate of incapacity for work in the event of symptoms

The employee can then use this to report sick to their employer.

However, if the employee is

symptom-free

and the corona test is negative

, the doctor may not issue an AU certificate

"In this case, the continued payment of wages by the employer is secured through compensation under the Infection Protection Act.

The patient submits the official notification of the order for quarantine to the employer,” writes the KBV.

What is the salary during quarantine?

In quarantine, workers receive

compensation equal to their net salary

from their employer.

The costs for this are reimbursed to the employer by the responsible health authority in accordance with the law on the prevention and control of infectious diseases.

After that, employees receive a payment that depends on the amount of sickness benefit entitlement.
