Covid-19 in France: 162 deaths in 24 hours, more than 20,700 hospitalized patients

Nearly 1,400 people positive for Covid-19 have entered the hospital in the past 24 hours, compared to 323 the day before and 1,318 last Monday.


In France as elsewhere in Europe, the fifth wave of Covid-19 does not end.

Contaminations are progressing and “the number of hospitalizations is no longer falling”, noted the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, in Le Parisien on Sunday.

This Monday, 24,179 positive cases were identified in 24 hours, compared to 18,853 last Monday.

As a reminder, few tests are carried out on Sundays.

Nearly 90,000 positive cases have been identified each day on average over the past week, an increase of 36% in seven days.

According to the latest report from the health authorities, 1,401 people positive for Covid-19 have entered the hospital in the past 24 hours, compared to 323 the day before and 1,318 last Monday.

This data has been increasing for several days at the rate of + 10% per week.

At the same time, the number of people hospitalized with Covid-19 rose to 20,706 on Monday, against 20,566 on Sunday and 20,925 a week earlier.

The pressure continues to ease a little in the critical care services, which have 1,632 patients on March 21, against 1,642 on Sunday and 1,826 last Monday.

In 24 hours, 124 people were admitted to these units reserved for the most serious cases.

More than 141,000 deaths

Since the start of the pandemic more than two years ago, 141,095 deaths linked to Covid-19 have been recorded in the country, including 162 recorded in the last 24 hours.

In terms of vaccination, 54,237,267 people received at least one injection (i.e. 80.4% of the total population1) and 53,314,050 people now have a complete vaccination schedule (i.e. 79.1% of the total population).

In addition, some 39,386,660 people received a booster dose.
