Anyone who sleeps well and enough is fit for the challenges of the day.
A study shows what role it plays whether you sleep with the window closed or open.
The teeth are brushed, the flight mode is activated on the smartphone and the window is tilted: evening routines that many put into practice before going to bed.
But the latter is not always a good idea, as an international study shows.
On the contrary:
the risk of cardiovascular disease increases, especially in cities, according to the study leader
- because the risk of night-time traffic noise is higher here than in the countryside.

Nocturnal heart palpitations - these causes can be behind it
The international overview study under the leadership of the Center for Cardiology of the University Medical Center Mainz came to the conclusion that nocturnal rest disturbances unfolded health-damaging effects that put a strain on the heart and circulatory system.
In their study, the authors led by Thomas Münzel write: "The World Health Organization (WHO) concluded that road traffic
noise increases the risk of ischemic heart disease and possibly also other cardiometabolic diseases such as stroke, obesity and diabetes
".

Nocturnal noise increases blood pressure and causes blood vessels to become stiff
According to a press release from the University Medical Center Mainz, one of the main results of the study is that sleeping too short or frequently interrupted by traffic noise increases the risk of developing cardiovascular disease in the future.
It has been shown that night noise in particular increases blood pressure, increases the release of stress hormones and causes the blood vessels to become stiffer
.
But it's not just the heart that suffers: the psyche is also affected by nocturnal noise.
According to the study leaders, even mental illnesses such as depression or anxiety disorders can be promoted by permanent nocturnal rest disturbance.
"In the future, we think it is essential that noise is recognized as an important cardiovascular risk factor and that the WHO guidelines are incorporated into EU noise laws, which ensure that noise limits for day and night must be observed," the Study authors quoted in the press release of the University Medical Center Mainz.
According to the authors of the study, noise at night is more harmful than disturbance during the day because it throws the internal clock out of sync.
The result:
vascular-damaging
inflammatory reactions in the body are triggered
