In January 2016, Budi Tek, "Budi" to his friends, patron of art born Budiardjo Tek in Jakarta in 1957, inaugurated with great fanfare the first Giacometti retrospective in China in his Yuz Museum in Shanghai, designed by the Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto and inaugurated in 2014. Knowing that he was suffering from violent pancreatic cancer, he had taken advantage of the beautiful opening dinner and the international list of his guests, to announce it to everyone in a heartbreaking speech and to say his farewells in direct.
Anxious silence from the guests, then convinced that 2016 would be his last year.

And yet, against any pessimistic vital prognosis, by his need to do battle and face fate, this entrepreneur who became the philanthropist of the contemporary scene in Shanghai resisted his cancer for six years.
He overcame experimental treatments in the West, the pandemic, global confinement.
He died on March 18, at the age of 65, in Hong Kong, headquarters of the Yuz Foundation which financed the projects of the Yuz Museum…
