Your opinion beyond any prejudice and against stereotypes ".    The format, designed to give a voice to adolescents and young people and to compare them with institutions, civil society organizations and the private sector, is part of the activities


On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, today a double appointment with the UNICEF Activate Talk “OPS!

Your opinion beyond any prejudice and against stereotypes ".

   The format, designed to give a voice to adolescents and young people and to compare them with institutions, civil society organizations and the private sector, is part of the activities of the XVIII Week of Action against Racism organized by UNAR - National Office against Racial Discrimination .

The meeting, which will focus on the fight against stereotypes and prejudices and the promotion of a positive narrative on migration, will be held in attendance from 10.00 to 13.00 at the Città dell'Altra Economia in Rome, and will be broadcast online from 16.30 on the channels UNICEF Italy and ANSA.

According to the results of a survey launched on UNICEF's U-Report * digital platform, 79% of young people of foreign origin who responded said they had seen or experienced racial prejudice since in Italy, due to skin color (58 %), language (12%) or economic situation (7%).

On the other hand, 44% of the participants of Italian nationality admitted that they tend to identify the color of the skin with being a migrant, and 63% share the idea that we all have racial prejudices.

A further analysis on migration and racism in social media carried out by researchers from the University of Urbino confirmed the existence of unconscious prejudices that decisively influence attitudes and behaviors towards young migrants and refugees.

From there, the launch of a contest and a campaign sponsored by UNAR which involved adolescents and young people in debates and actions to combat racism and discrimination.

All these experiences will be collected and told during the Activate Talk through the voices of experts, and of adolescents and young people under 25.

Focus also on the role of influencers in proposing new thought models and in building an inclusive culture.

It will also be discussed during the meeting with two special guests: the couple of content creators Raissa & Momo.

Triantafillos Loukarelis, Director of UNAR - National Office against Racial Discrimination - Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Coordinator of the program in Italy of the UNICEF office for Europe and Central Asia Anna Riatti, the President of the Italian Committee for UNICEF Carmela Pace and a video message from the Guarantor Authority for Childhood and Adolescence, Carla Garlatti.

The meeting will be moderated by Kwanza Musi dos Santos, consultant in Diversity Management, President of the association NellaRoma - against racial discrimination.
