    "Today is a difficult and exciting day for me as I am announcing my retirement from tennis," said the 25-year-old fresh Australian Open winner.

"I gave everything I had for this beautiful sport - she added - and I'm happy about it. This is my success. Now I want to pursue other dreams".

Barty is the eighth tennis player in history with more weeks in first place in the world ranking and the fourth in history to finish at the top of the ranking for three consecutive years, after Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf and Serena Williams.
