(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, MARCH 23 - American basketball star Brittney Griner, detained in Russia since February on drug possession charges, "is fine".
The spokesman for the US State Department, Ned Price, said, citing an official of the American embassy in Moscow that he managed to have contact with the player.
A two-time Olympic gold medalist, Griner was arrested on February 17 at the Moscow airport after customs officers said they found e-cigarette hash refills in her luggage.
She faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
In recent days the state department had protested with the Moscato authorities for denying consular access to the player, (ANSA).
