In May 2022, Google will drop the curtain on films and series in the Google Play Store.
The app throws streaming and Co. out of the program - what users need to know now.
Dublin - Whether on the bus, train or train - watching TV on the go is now part of everyday life.
Almost everything can be called up on a smartphone and often sweetens one or the other waiting time.
No wonder, then, that in addition to apps available in the Google Play Store such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, DAZN or Sky Ticket, the platform itself also offers films and series.
But from May 2022 this will be over.
Google Play Store: Films and series are out of the program - Android users worldwide are affected
As the tech influencer service
9to5Google
reports, by May 2022 all films and series will disappear from the Google Play Store app, which millions of people use worldwide.
Neither renting nor buying TV content will continue to be possible on the platform, which also offers books, games and over 2.5 million apps.
After the final end of Google Play Music in December 2020, Google is thus dismantling another component of its range of media bandwidths.
It is not known whether antitrust considerations are behind this;
In the context of the repeated lawsuits against the Internet giant, which is currently answering for alleged monopolization efforts (see video), the streamlining of the Google Play Store seems understandable.
Movies and series in the Google Play Store: Android users will need a new app from May 2022
However, if you are worried that you will no longer be able to access your TV library in the future, you can breathe a sigh of relief: Although the "Movies/Series" button will disappear from the Google Play Store from May 2022, the Internet giant will be relocating Offer in the Google TV app.
Anyone who has previously used the platform via the web browser is obviously not affected by the changes.

According to the company, all purchased products will still be available in the Google TV app;
Nothing changes in the payment functions, and other settings, such as the wish lists, are retained.
If you go to the Google Play Store in the future to search for current series highlights or cinema strips, you will be automatically redirected to the new home of the TV offering.
The app is already pre-installed on many smartphones, so with just a few clicks it's time to start filming again!
