A new consumer study provides amazing results: When customers reach into the freezer, they don't always choose pizza - they apparently prefer this product:

We all know it: when cooking has to be done quickly, customers from Aldi* and Co. like to reach for products from the freezer.

As the consumption and media analysis VuMA from 2021 has now shown, it does not always have to be so unhealthy.

Because the Germans particularly prefer a frozen product.

Consumer Study - Frozen pizza's popularity is declining

When it comes to the question of which frozen product Germans prefer to buy, most would certainly say pizza.

The Italian dish is quick and tastes good too.

But none:

In the consumption and media analysis, the pizza or the pizza baguette only took third place with around 44 percent.

As recently as last year, more people said they bought frozen pizza.

According to information from t-online.de, frozen pizza was still the second most popular frozen product in 2019 and 2020.

Germans prefer to buy this frozen product

Frozen herbs take second place in the 2021 poll.

However, at 45 percent, they are only just ahead of frozen pizzas.

Poultry and other meat share fourth place.

At around 43 percent, they are among the most popular frozen goods in Germany.

The front runner is the frozen vegetables.

With more than 65 percent, the healthy food clearly outperforms the other frozen products.

It doesn't matter whether it's peas, broccoli or vegetable mixtures: the respondents stated that they use frozen vegetables several times a month.

How Healthy Are Frozen Vegetables?

But how healthy are frozen vegetables actually?

Öko-Test has tested pure vegetable varieties in the past.* Of the 21 different brands of frozen peas examined, they all received top marks.

The products tested also performed well in another test of Asian stir-fries: no dangerous pesticides or pathogens were found in any of the stir-fries tested.

Basically, frozen vegetables are of course not to be compared with fresh vegetables.

This is particularly evident in the taste.

However, the frozen greens should usually contain more vitamins than fresh vegetables.

That's because frozen vegetables are snap frozen.

Aldi: bad news for customers – around 400 products are becoming more expensive

Vitamins are considered to be very sensitive to light and heat.

For example, if fresh vegetables sit longer or are exposed to higher temperatures, more vitamins are lost.

This is not the case with frozen vegetables.

The shock freezing preserves the vitamins and minerals as much as possible.

Aldi customers are facing hard times: the discounter is increasing its prices* – around 400 products are affected.

Popular foods are also becoming scarcer again. * But there is also good news: In some discounters, the mask requirement could soon be lifted * - but this does not apply to every federal state.
