After the surfer posted the reference in which he found the city - 37.50020 ° N, 115.28190 ° W, other Reddit users broke their heads trying to figure out where this city came from in the middle of the desert.
One user wrote with a laugh: "Here they filmed the movie 'Cars'" and another wondered: "A new Stargate season has been approved?".
While many gave up and admitted that it was probably really a ghost town, one had an idea: "I think it's Michael Heiser's 'art city.' It's an artistic installation."

Indeed according to Wikipedia Michael Heiser is a celebrated American land artist who works mainly in large-scale sculptures.
He began work on "The City" in 1972 and was scheduled to finish it in 2020, but its completion is delayed.
Heiser's Life Project is probably the largest work of contemporary art ever built - about 400 meters wide and 2.5 km long. Because the artist is a very private person, and the work is located in the remote desert of Nevada, very little is known about it. , Except that "City" consists of five phases, each of which consists of a number of buildings called complexes, some of which reach a height of 25 meters.
This is what the "city" project in 2014 looks like:

The project is deep in the Nevada contagion, not far from the notorious military base known as "Area 51" and some say it is more mysterious than it is.
Funding for the construction of the City comes from a number of sponsors and patrons, including the Dia Art Foundation and the Lannan Foundation, and its construction cost is estimated at more than $ 25 million.
The work is located on a large plot of private land owned by a foundation belonging to the artist and closed to the public until its completion.
In 2005 it was announced that Heiser is completing work on the site with a team of about 12 people and expects to finish before 2010. Despite this, City has not yet opened to the public despite the promises and publications it is committed to developing by 2020 some terms of agreement with authorities.
The mystery surrounding the project has been preserved and visitors are unwanted at the site and forcibly removed.
Due to the location far from the road and a system of earthen tree barriers, it is not possible to watch it up close from the ground without breaking the law in trespassing.
