(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 27 - Phil Collins says goodbye to his fans: the Genesis concert on Saturday 26 March in London, at 02Arena, was the last of his life.

The music legend, 71 years old - reports the Mirror online - can no longer play after back surgery.

"Now I'll have to find a real job," he stressed.

The group - which includes Phil, keyboardist Tony Banks and guitarist-bassist Mike Rutherford - had announced a union for The Last Domino? Tour after a 14-year absence from live, but last year were forced to cancel several dates due to the Covid.

During the tour Collins performed while sitting, unable to use the cane to walk.

"I don't do anything - he explained to the Guardian -.

I don't practice singing at home, at all.

Evidence is practice.

My health changes things, doing the show seated changes things. "

Phil Collins' health problems date back to at least 2009, when the musician suffered a crushing of the vertebreaks due to the position in which he played the drums: hence first surgery, followed from another in 2015.

Born on January 30, 1951, the artist began his career with Genesis playing drums in the 1970s. He then became the voice of the group when Peter Gabriel left in 1975. His solo career was marked from great hits like In the Air Tonight or Against All Odds. (ANSA).
