Almost a year after the death of Prince Philip on April 9, 2021, a memorial ceremony brought together members of royalty on Tuesday March 29 in London, in memory of the late husband of Queen Elizabeth II.
On the benches of Westminster Abbey, however, the color of mourning has become rare.
Princess Anne, the Duchess of Cornwall, Letizia of Spain and the Queen herself preferred green to black.
Violation of protocol?
This theme actually hides a particular meaning: this fir shade, also called “Edinburgh green” was the color of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Used by his staff and for his private cars, the tint had already been seen during his funeral, on the Land Rover which carried his coffin.
A strong tribute that hid others, more discreet and more personal.

Symbolic choices
Green was in order during the ceremony in memory of Prince Philip, but other tributes slipped into the clothes of the guests.
The brooch made of gold and rubies worn by Queen Elizabeth II was not chosen at random.
It was her husband who gave her this piece by Andrew Grima in 1966. The Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, wore a bugle-shaped brooch on her coat.
This is the military symbol of the regiment of which the monarch had been the colonel-in-chief.
Returning from her Caribbean tour, Kate Middleton preferred to pay tribute to Lady Di with a polka dot dress, a nod to an emblematic outfit worn by the latter in 1988. In the Windsor dynasty, the heritage goes loud and clear.
