The American band Foo Fighters announced Tuesday that they will not go ahead with their tour to "mourn" the sudden death of their drummer Taylor Hawkins.

"It is with great sadness that the Foo Fighters confirm the cancellation of upcoming tour dates following the unexpected loss of our brother Taylor Hawkins," the rock group said on social media.

Among other performances, they had planned two concerts in Spain, which will not take place: on June 17 in Valencia and on the 20th of the same month in Madrid.

At 50 years old, Hawkins died last Friday at a hotel in Bogotá (Colombia), where he was staying with the rest of the members of Foo Fighters before performing at the Estéreo Picnic Festival, held in the Colombian capital.

"We will take some time to grieve, heal, get closer to our loved ones and appreciate all the music and memories we have together," the statement added.

The band had planned to close the Festival Estéreo Picnic with its performance this Friday, but shortly before going on stage, officials from the organization announced the news and asked for a minute of silence in tribute to the drummer, which was respected by a shocked audience.

Foo Fighters was on tour in Latin America, where they had made the public enjoy festivals as recognized as Lollapalooza in Chile and Argentina.

Paraguay, Colombia and Brazil were their next destinations, but a storm made it impossible to visit the first of these countries, so they traveled to Bogotá, where Hawkins died.
