(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 30 - Green light for projects aimed at planting 6.6 million trees by 2024. Urban forestry is a fundamental strategy for the well-being of our communities and our environment.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry for Ecological Transition, Ilaria Fontana, announces the publication of the announcement for the participation of metropolitan cities in urban reforestation projects, "a fundamental strategy for the well-being of our communities and our environment".



The call allocates a total of 330 million euros of which 74 million euros for 2022, another 74 for 2023 and 139 million for 2024, for the creation of urban and peri-urban forests in the more than thousand municipalities of the 14 metropolitan cities, affecting over 20 million inhabitants.

50% of the available resources is allocated to the metropolitan cities of the South and the Islands "The protection of urban and extra-urban green areas - says the undersecretary - together with the energy policy measures aimed at the transition towards more sustainable energy production models, represents a valid tool for combating impacts produced by atmospheric pollution, land consumption, climate change and loss of biodiversity "" (ANSA).
