Rewe: Oil and flour on offer - empty shelves and abstruse scenes - "Pensioners with 20 kilos of flour in the car"

As of today, Rewe is offering offers for vegetable oil and wheat flour throughout Germany.
Social media users are amazed.
We checked out a local market.
Peiting - Due to the Ukraine conflict, there are currently increasing supply bottlenecks for vegetable oil and wheat flour - empty shelves in supermarkets and discounters are the result.
Aldi, Lidl, Edeka and Co. have already rationed the sale of certain foods because people are changing their buying behavior, as was the case at the beginning of the Corona crisis.
It's being hoarded again.
The current offer from Rewe is all the more astonishing: Oil and flour have been on offer since Monday (March 21).
Rewe: Social media users amazed at the offers
In this week's brochure, the supermarket is offering Mazola's germ oil (made from corn kernels) and Rosenmehl's Type 405 wheat flour at reduced prices.
The offer is valid throughout Germany.
Lidl had also surprised with a similar offer.
The Rewe brochure was shared and commented on several times on social media over the weekend.
A Twitter user wrote, for example, on Sunday: "But Rewe wants to know... Flour and oil on special offer starting tomorrow".
On Monday morning, another user described his experiences in a Rewe branch - obviously one or the other customer understood the offer as an invitation to hoard:

We looked around directly in a market and, unsurprisingly, found empty shelves there - both for the seed oil advertised and for the wheat flour listed in the brochure.
The rapeseed oil was also sold out, and there were no more bottles.
However, customers do not have to do without vegetable oil as a matter of principle.
There is still a wide range of different olive oil products.
There shouldn't be any bottlenecks in the near future either, because olive oil is not largely sourced from the Ukraine like sunflower oil.

Anyone who as a customer is absolutely dependent on sunflower or rapeseed oil may also be able to get one in the respective Rewe - just in a different place and at slightly more expensive prices than with conventional products.
We found enough bottles of both types of oil on the organic shelf of the brand we visited.
And when it came to wheat flour, only flour type 405 was sold out.
Other varieties, such as the 550, were also still available for purchase.
So far it is unclear why Rewe has switched the offer for this week.
The answer to the request from tz.de is still pending.
However, it could be related to the fact that brochures are usually not printed at short notice, but several weeks in advance.
