Schools and vocational schools in Germany have now accepted more than 20,000 students from Ukraine.
This was the result of an initial query by the Conference of Ministers of Education (KMK) in the federal states.
As of March 25, one month after the start of the Russian attack on Ukraine, there were exactly 20,205 children and young people.

However, the actual number is likely to be significantly higher, as there is still no data from the most populous federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt and Hamburg.
It is also reported from the federal states that the number of school-age children and young people has not yet been finally determined.
Responses have not yet been received from all schools.
From now on weekly queries in the countries
From now on, the KMK wants to query the figures in the federal states on a weekly basis and publish them on its website.
The Schleswig-Holstein Minister of Education and KMK President Karin Prien (CDU) spoke of a transparent and nationwide database.
"This is an important prerequisite for efficiently coordinating further measures," she said on Wednesday.
Education politicians in the federal states estimate that around half of the war refugees arriving in Germany are children and young people.
