Panic buying picked up speed again in the wake of the Ukraine war.

A Penny customer experienced this in the milk department - and shared it on Twitter.

Munich – The pictures are already familiar from the times of the corona pandemic: yawning emptiness on supermarket shelves and customers who sometimes put huge amounts of flour or cooking oil on the belt at discounter checkouts.

In 2020, toilet paper in particular was hoarded for fear of the corona virus. Panic buying is currently particularly visible in the area of long-life foods.

This applies to flour, cooking oil – and apparently also long-life milk.

A customer at Penny had to find that out bitterly.

On Twitter she posted a photo of an empty milk shelf – the reactions to it are clear.

Hamster purchases in the supermarket: Oil, flour and milk are running out - food is rationed

The phenomenon of hamsters in Germany can be observed again two years after the toilet paper drama.

Worried about shortages and delivery bottlenecks as a result of the Ukraine war, desperate supermarket customers stuff their shopping carts full - it's not just sunflower oil that is in great demand.

Sometimes only dusty emptiness can be seen on the pasta and flour shelves.

For this reason, some supermarkets have already rationed certain products.

Signs on the shelves indicate that only one bottle of cooking oil or two packs of flour are allowed per customer.

In a supermarket in Baden-Württemberg, this has already led to such an escalative argument that even the police had to be called in*.

Penny customer shares empty milk shelves on Twitter – users are appalled

Now another food seems to be scarce in the supermarket.

When she went shopping, a Penny customer found two pallets that were supposed to contain long-life milk that were completely empty.

She posted a picture of it on Twitter and captioned it, "I'll leave this here without comment: milk shelf, Penny, today..."

Under her post, the horrified comments quickly multiplied: "Incredible.

People go stupid every second," says one user, annoyed, and continues: "Empty shelves do not indicate a supply emergency in a country like Germany.

They show the ego and lack of solidarity behavior of some. "She is also of the opinion: "If everyone bought what they need, there would be enough." So she is obviously an advocate of rationing in the supermarket.

Another Twitter user commented under the post: "Seriously?

Who is hoarding milk?

Are people finally completely stupid now?”, whereupon another user simply writes “Yes”.

"It's good that I took a bag of milk with me yesterday," said one commenter with relief.

Hamster purchases are not necessary: politicians appeal to the common sense of the citizens

It is by no means necessary to buy hamsters and to hoard as much flour, oil or milk as possible at home.

The Federal Association of the German Food Trade is already appealing to people to only buy products in normal household quantities * and Minister of Nutrition Cem Özdemir is also asking not to panic and to refrain from buying hamsters.

According to Focus.de

, however, experts expect

sales figures to normalize again in the coming weeks.

There is therefore only a real bottleneck with sunflower oil, as this mostly comes from the Ukraine.

Apart from that, no supply bottlenecks are expected.
