Aldi again raises prices for groceries: these products are now becoming more expensive

The prices for some groceries are being raised again at Aldi.

The discounter giant Aldi is again increasing the prices for groceries *.

Due to rising costs, including for fertilizer and animal feed, prices will be raised from Monday (04/04/2022).

This applies above all to butter, meat and sausages, which, according to Aldi Nord spokesman Florian Scholbeck, are “significantly more expensive”.

Butter is to be raised by 30 percent, other foods by 20 to 50 percent.

"Since the beginning of the Ukraine war, there have been jumps in purchase prices that we have not experienced before," Scholbeck is quoted as saying by the dpa.

The Aldi spokesman assured that there should not be empty shelves, although short-term bottlenecks cannot be ruled out.

But food prices will not only rise in the discounter chain in the future, customers must also expect price increases in other supermarkets and discounters.

Consumers are now facing a second wave of sales increases, "and they will certainly be in the double digits," warned Josef Sanktjohanser, President of the German Retail Association (HDE), to the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung.

The price increase will soon be visible "everywhere in the supermarkets on the price tags".

According to Sanktjohanser, food prices had previously risen by five percent due to increased energy costs.

The supermarket chain Aldi* is currently increasing its prices in many places, reports the dpa.

"Where the costs in purchasing change due to the current market situation, we also have to increase the sales prices," said a company spokesman to the dpa.

Overall, the prices of around 400 Aldi products were increased, according to Lebensmittel-Zeitung on Thursday (03/17/2022).

According to the dpa, there hasn't been a price increase of this kind in German supermarkets for years.

The war in Ukraine probably broke the camel's back.

According to a spokesman, Aldi had already struggled with many problems in purchasing.

Aldi: Which products are affected by the price increases

According to the Lebensmittelzeitung, the increase in price varies depending on the product.

The price increases can be found in many product groups and range from euro cent amounts to whole euro jumps.

Even mineral water is getting more expensive.

Here the price has remained stable for more than ten years at 19 euro cents, writes the Lebensmittel-Zeitung.

The cheapest mineral water will soon be sold over the counter for 25 euro cents.
