(ANSA) - ROME, APRIL 01 - Exactly 30 years later, on May 18 2022, Tom Cruise will return to the Cannes Film Festival where he made only one appearance, for Far and Away by Ron Howard, the closing film of the 45th Festival.
That evening, he had awarded the Golden Palm to director Bille August for his film 'Best Intentions'.
Cruise will be back, official confirmation of the rumors of recent days arrives from Cannes, for Top Gun hero Maverick again in theaters around the world.
Cannes will pay him an exceptional tribute to his lifetime achievements.
On that special day, Tom Cruise will have an onstage conversation with journalist Didier Allouch in the afternoon and will walk up the steps of the Palais des Festivals for the evening screening of Top Gun: Maverick, directed by Joseph Kosinski.
Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to 1986's Top Gun, again sees Cruise as fighter pilot Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, it will be released on May 25, distributed by Eagle Pictures / Paramount Pictures Italy and on May 27 in the United States.
