According to a representative survey by Verivox, more and more Germans want to save energy due to the rise in energy prices.
More and more German households are thinking about
measures that can be used to save energy in everyday life and thus reduce energy costs
.

here and also find out which
tips you can use to save energy
.
On behalf of Verivox, the market research institute Innofact surveyed 1,025 people online in October 2021 and 1,011 people in March 2022 aged between 18 and 69.
The surveys are representative of the population in terms of age, gender and federal state.
Electricity prices and energy costs have risen sharply: More and more Germans want to save energy at home
Due to the
sharp rise in heating costs
, despite the mild winter*, which can sometimes be attributed to the Ukraine war, more and more households in Germany want to take measures
to save energy
.
According to the survey, only every fifth person wants to continue heating as before.
For comparison: In an earlier survey in October 2021, almost a third of those surveyed still saw it that way.
Incidentally
, 40 percent of Germans even want to
stick to nuclear and coal power
because of the high energy prices .
The high heating costs leave only a fifth of Germans cold
While in October 2021 30 percent of those surveyed still wanted to stick to their previous heating behavior despite high heating costs, according to the survey from March 2022 it is only 20 percent.
54 percent of those surveyed stated that they wanted to reduce the
room temperature
slightly (34 percent) or significantly (20 percent) because of the high
costs
.
According to the report, another 20 percent
only want to heat individual rooms
in order to save energy.
According to the Verivox report,
gas prices
for household customers rose by around
85 percent
between October 2021 and March 2022 .
Anyone who heats a family home with 20,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) currently pays around 2,596 euros – six months ago it was around 1,402 euros.
Don't want to heat with gas anymore?
This is how the change works.
More than half of Germans want to save electricity
However, consumers in Germany do not only want to save on heating.
In
March 2022, 57 percent of Germans also want to reduce
electricity
costs
.
In October 2021, only 26 percent wanted to reduce their electricity costs through savings measures.
A further 21 percent stated in the survey that they would reduce their
energy consumption should energy prices continue to rise
.
Only 17 percent of those surveyed do not want to change anything about their electricity consumption.
According to Verivox,
electricity costs
for household customers rose
by 18 percent
between October 2021 and March 2022 .
A three-person household with an annual consumption of 4,000 kWh now costs 1,481 euros, compared to 1,255 euros last autumn.
Tips to save energy and thus reduce energy costs
Lower the room temperature.
One degree less saves around 6 percent on heating costs.
For a single-family house, that's around 156 euros per year.
Intermittent ventilation instead of continuous ventilation.
Windows that are open too long cool the building down.
If you ventilate briefly several times a day instead, you can save around 12 percent energy or 312 euros (single-family house).
Switch off electronic devices completely.
The easiest way to do this is with switchable plug strips.
In this way, power consumption can be reduced by up to 9 percent.
For a three-person household, that's up to 133 euros per year.
