The woman with the short hairstyle wears a red dress and smiles relaxed at the camera: The cover of »Vogue« from December 1991 is one of the most famous shots by the photographer Patrick Demarchelier.

It shows Princess Diana in what at least appears to be a carefree moment.

Not glamour, but the person is in the foreground.

The Frenchman, whose career took off in England and the USA, also knew how to evoke glamor with his camera: the 1990s were his most productive times with his noble-looking photos of supermodels.

Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell – he photographed all of them for major fashion magazines such as »Vogue« and »Harper's Bazaar«.

Demarchelier photographed ad campaigns for Dior, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Tommy Hilfiger.

Madonna and Beyoncé also stood in front of his camera.

He had already photographed Diana in 1989, as a photographer officially appointed by Buckingham Palace.

From 2005 he supervised the production of the Pirelli calendar three times.

Demarchelier was a big name in the industry, and in 2006 his name was mentioned in the film The Devil Wears Prada, which was set in the fashion industry.

The editor-in-chief of a high-end magazine, played by Meryl Streep, asks: "Did Demarchelier agree?"

In 2018, however, a shadow fell on his long career.

The Boston Globe revealed allegations by more than 50 models that agents, stylists and photographers were being sexually harassed.

Demarchelier's name was also mentioned.

The Frenchman has always denied the allegations, calling them "ridiculous."

Demarchelier died in New York on March 31, he was 78 years old.

He leaves behind a wife and three sons.
