There's snow again in Germany - and it's supposed to stay cold and uncomfortable at the weekend too.
The German Weather Service (DWD) expects up to ten centimeters of fresh snow for Saturday in regions above 400 to 600 meters.
"Tomorrow morning, when the shutters are pulled up, you should often see a thin layer of snow or at least some slush over the center and the south," said a DWD meteorologist in Offenbach.
According to the information, the snowfall only gradually subsided on Sunday.
But according to the DWD, the weather will not be as spring-like as it was at the end of March anytime soon.
“Although it will be a little milder, it will mostly remain cool in the coming week,” said the meteorologist.
In addition, it will be stormy and very unstable.
13 inches of snow
According to the information, snow fell on the night of Friday, especially in central Germany and in the Allgäu.
Ten centimeters were measured in Ostercappeln-Schwagstorf in Lower Saxony and in Göschitz in Thuringia, and 13 centimeters in Lügde in North Rhine-Westphalia.
In Baden-Württemberg, the Black Forest and the Swabian Alb reported fresh snow.
But that's not enough for skiers.
All of the lifts in the network on the Feldberg in the Black Forest are closed on Friday, as can be read on the lift network's homepage.
In Thuringia and other federal states, the snowfall was particularly difficult for motorists.
Vehicles crashed into the guardrail on the snow-covered Autobahn 4 near Gotha.
Snowstorm in Spain
It's not only snowing in Germany at the moment.
It is also wintry in parts of Spain: in the north, a snowstorm severely obstructed traffic.
The Pyrenees region of Navarra on the border with France was particularly affected.
Several mountain passes had to be closed.
The late onset of winter affects several parts of Spain.
The national weather service Aemet issued severe weather warnings for numerous areas in nine of the country's 17 regions for Friday and the weekend.
The residents of affected areas are warned of extreme cold, snow, strong winds and high waves, among other things.
Orange warning level also applies to the Balearic Islands with the holiday island of Mallorca.
According to Aemet, waves of up to eight meters are expected there.
