After reports of her arrest, former US goalkeeper Hope Solo has now released a statement.
It is clear from this that the 40-year-old was temporarily arrested.
But Solo only wants to comment on what actually happened at a later date.
According to the AP news agency, the suspicion was drunk driving.
“On counsel's advice, Hope cannot discuss this situation.
But she wants everyone to know that her children are her life, that she was released immediately and is now at home with her family, "said a statement from her lawyer Rich Nichols, which the athlete had spread via her Twitter account .
The attorney went on to say that "the story is more sympathetic than the initial allegations suggest and she looks forward to the opportunity to defend herself against those allegations."
Children were in the car
Citing a police report, the former soccer player was found unconscious in her car in a shopping mall parking lot in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Accordingly, a passer-by observed that Solo had sat unconscious behind the wheel for more than an hour with the engine running and her two children sitting in the back seat.
An officer who was called noticed the smell of alcohol on her.
The ex-world champion and three-time Olympic champion is said to have subsequently refused an alcohol test, after which a blood sample was taken from her.
According to the information, the 40-year-old was temporarily arrested for driving despite being unfit to drive, resisting a police officer and violating supervisory duties, but was later released.
On June 28, she is to answer for this before a court.
Solo had to end her career involuntarily
It's not the first time Solo has made headlines over an arrest.
She was arrested eight years ago after allegedly assaulting her half-sister and 17-year-old nephew at a family gathering.
The case was later dismissed, with Solo saying she acted in self-defense.
Her involuntary career end also caused a stir.
At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the United States lost to Sweden on penalties in the quarterfinals.
Solo then gave an interview in which she described the Swedes as a "bunch of cowards" because of their defensive play.
As a result, she was excluded from the national team.
The athlete is one of the most famous players in world football.
She is a world champion, Olympic champion and has played 202 international matches for the USA.
She has been married to former professional footballer Jerramy Stevens since 2012.
In April 2020, Solo announced that she had become a mother to twins.
