best album

of the year is »We Are« and comes from Jon Batiste.

At the ceremony in Las Vegas, the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj surprisingly spoke up.

In a pre-recorded video message, he asked for support for his country.

Nothing is more contrary to music than the "silence of destroyed cities and killed people," said Zelenskyj.

Russia is bringing “a terrible silence” to Ukraine with its bombs.

"Fill the silence with your music," Zelenskyy asked.

"Support us in any way you can."

He dreams of people in the embattled Ukrainian cities being able to live freely again - "as freely as you do on the Grammy stage," Zelenskyj said.

After that, US singer John Legend sang a song dedicated to Ukraine together with Ukrainian musicians.

The Grammys were awarded for the 64th time this year.

The gala was originally planned for January 31, and should have been in Los Angeles.

However, due to the rapid spread of the highly infectious omicron variant of the corona virus, the award ceremony was postponed - and now took place in Las Vegas for the first time.

Around 13,000 members of the Recording Academy decide on the winners of the Grammys, which are among the most coveted music awards in the world.
