21 cases of salmonellosis: which Kinder products are affected by the recall?

The bacterium was detected in 21 consumers who have in common to have recently eaten Kinder products manufactured in the Belgian factory in Arlon, said the Ministry of Health.

"Eight (of these cases) were hospitalized and all returned home," he said, relaying the recall campaign started Monday by Ferrero, owner of the brand.

Ferrero reported a "potential" link of its products with cases of salmonella and proceeded with a "voluntary" recall.

Since then, "the investigations carried out by Santé Publique France have revealed the consumption of certain Kinder brand products (...) among the 15 patients who could be questioned at this time", indicated a few hours later the Ministry of Health. health.

The affected products are:

  • Kinder Surprise 20g (by one, by three, by four and by six) and 100g with expiry dates between the end of June 2022 and the end of October 2022;

  • Kinder Schoko-Bons with expiry dates between the end of April and the end of August 2022;

  • Kinder Mini Eggs with best before dates between late April and late August;

  • Kinder Happy Moments, Kinder Mix: 193g, Basket 150g, Plush 133g, Bucket 198g, with expiry dates at the end of August 2022.

People with these products in their cupboard should “throw them away immediately,” says the Ministry of Health.

It is recommended to first take a photo of the packaging to distinguish the product references (Use By Date and barcode number).

Salmonellosis, detected in recent days in France but also in Ireland and Great Britain with a common genetic strain, causes gastrointestinal disorders generally accompanied by fever.

These symptoms occur within 48 hours of consuming the contaminated products.

They can be aggravated in young children - the median age of cases detected in France is 4 years - and in vulnerable people.

In the event of the appearance of these symptoms, if you have consumed these products, consult your doctor “without delay by notifying him of this consumption”, recommends the ministry.

Increased hand washing is also recommended, especially in households with children.
