(ANSA) - NEW YORK, APRIL 05 - Riccardo Muti has Covid and his concert tonight in Chicago has been canceled.
This was announced by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra of which the Italian maestro is artistic director.
The performance was to be the third with Muti on the podium and a program of music by Mazzoli, Mahler and Bruckner.
The decision to cancel was made after Muti tested positive yesterday following a routine test dictated by the orchestra's huge anti-Covid.
The maestro, who exhibits "mild symptoms", will not be able to conduct the subsequent performances of the Chicago Symphony scheduled for April 7, 8, 9 and 12, but members of the orchestra with pianist Leif Ove Andsnes have been confirmed.
On Saturday, the 80-year-old conductor attended the
annual Symphony Ball and that same evening he conducted an orchestra concert.
Participants in the event were required to present evidence of vaccination or a negative swab.
Muti is also fully vaccinated and has received the 'booster'.
