Edible oils are currently scarce.

The first restaurants are removing fries from the menu.

What about McDonald's and Burger King?

There will be changes there.

Hamm - Not only that pretty much everything is becoming more expensive as a consequence of the war of aggression against Ukraine.

Important goods are also becoming scarce - which also affects the menus of many restaurants or canteens.

This is reported by wa.de.

Because: Because edible oils are not only becoming more expensive but also becoming scarcer, some companies are cutting back on the fries that are so popular in Germany.

For example, the popular Cologne brewery "Gaffel am Dom" has removed fries from the menu - no, not an April Fool's joke.

No more fries?

McDonald's Responds to Oil Problem - Change Announced

Is this scenario now also threatening the popular fast food chains?

Obviously not.

At the current time, there are "no restrictions on the supply of the frying oil and therefore also of our King Fries", the company informed our editors at the request.

All products are currently available throughout Germany.

The situation is similar at McDonald's.

However, the fast food chain is responding to the shortage and announcing changes.

A company spokesman explained when asked by wa.de: "We use a vegetable oil mixture to fry our fries, including sunflower and rapeseed oil, with sunflower oil only making up a small part."

And it is precisely these oils that are currently in short supply: "Due to the currently limited availability, we will

temporarily further reduce the proportion

(of sunflower and rapeseed oil, editor's note) .

However, our guests can still get our fries from us in the usual quality.”

Delivery bottlenecks for edible oil: effects currently not foreseeable

However, according to the industry association Dehoga NRW, the needs of the Cologne brewery "Gaffel am Dom", among others, are not an isolated case.

"We have a tense situation in which certain types of cooking oil, such as sunflower oil, are harder to get than usual," spokesman Thorsten Hellwig told

dpa

.

Businesses that use a lot of oil could be particularly affected.

How many restaurateurs will actually be affected and how long the delivery bottlenecks will last is currently not foreseeable.

In addition, there would be inflationary effects in many areas.

Consumers are currently mostly looking into the tube - because they are standing in front of empty shelves in supermarkets or discounters, where cooking oils are otherwise.

However, there are some alternatives to sunflower oil.
