Olivier Véran had mentioned three weeks ago a peak at “120,000 - 150,000 contaminations per day”, for “the end of March”, based in particular on the projections of the Institut Pasteur, which “anticipates a plateau in the coming days” according to data updated on Monday, as the number of daily hospital admissions increases further to more than 1,540 (averaged over seven days).

The second booster dose of vaccine against Covid-19 will be open to people aged 60 and over, whose last injection dates back more than six months, Olivier Véran also announced.

“We know that a booster injection, when you are 60 years old and over, reduces the risk of hospitalization, resuscitation and death by 80%,” he said, recalling that this campaign is not mandatory.

Regarding the first round of the presidential election being held in France on Sunday, the Minister of Health confirmed that people who tested positive for Covid-19 “can go and vote in complete safety”.

"There will be masks, hydroalcoholic gel, they can come with a pen, we know how to do it," said Olivier Véran.
