(ANSA) - SAN JOSE, APRIL 08 - A cargo plane carrying mail and parcels went off the runway and broke off during an emergency landing in Costa Rica, causing the temporary closure of San Jose International Airport.
The aircraft, a yellow plane of the German logistics giant DHL, overturned and broke at the rear wheels, emitting a cloud of smoke.
On board there were two crew members, who were unharmed but taken to hospital as a precaution, and the pilot, in shock but also unharmed.
The incident occurred yesterday shortly before 10:30 am (6:30 pm in Italy) after the Boeing-757 plane, which took off from Juan Santamaria International Airport, out of San Jose, was forced to turn back 25 minutes later on landing. emergency due to mechanical failure.
According to what was reported, the crew had alerted local authorities of a plumbing problem.
The accident caused the temporary closure of the country's largest airport, impacting hundreds of flights and over 8,000 passengers.
