Heavy snowfall caused significant disabilities in the Bavarian district of Miltenberg on Saturday night.
The power went out in numerous towns and several roads were closed.
On Saturday morning, 15 towns and around 7,500 people were still without electricity, said district administrator Jens Marco Scherf.
It could sometimes take until the afternoon before the power supply is completely restored.
The district lies between Frankfurt am Main and Würzburg.
According to the district administrator, the road closures were invariably caused by fallen trees.
Not only the amount, but also the type of snow was problematic, said Scherf: "It was an enormously wet and heavy snow, which pushed down many trees." To his knowledge, there have been no accidents with injuries so far.
Scherf warned against removing roadblocks by hand.
It had happened several times during the morning that the barriers had simply been pushed aside.
That was "dangerous and selfish," said the district administrator, since you not only endanger yourself, but also following drivers.
In emergencies and if the phone stops working, citizens could contact the fire department.
In addition, a citizens' telephone has been set up.
southern Hesse also affected
According to the police, the onset of winter also led to considerable traffic delays in southern Hesse.
As far as is known, no one was injured.
According to their own statements, the police received numerous reports of problems with snow, ice, fallen trees and blocked roads with broken-down cars.
According to the police, many roads in the higher elevations of the Odenwald were impassable because trees had fallen under the weight of the snow.
In the Erbach valley near Heppenheim, three residents of a house were brought to safety because of several branches that had fallen on the roof.
In the Oberzent and Hirschhorn am Neckar areas, the electricity was partially out.
