History: farewell to the medievalist Chiara Frugoni

Chiara Frugoni, a Pisan medieval historian, a pupil of the Scuola Normale and then a teacher of Medieval History, first at the University of Pisa and then at the Tor Vergata University of Rome, from which she resigned in 2000, died. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - PISA, APRIL 10 - Chiara Frugoni, a Pisan medieval historian, a pupil of the Scuola Normale and then a teacher of Medieval History, first at the University of Pisa and then in Rome Tor Vergata, from which she resigned in 2000, died.


    The medievalist, ill for some time, had first married Salvatore Settis, archaeologist and former director of the Normale, from whom she had three children and in a second marriage the scientist and researcher of the CNR Donato Cioli.


   Together with Alessandro Barbero she was among the most well-known and appreciated historians of the Middle Ages even beyond the academic world, for her ability to communicate also to a wider and heterogeneous public.

Since 2012 you have been president and founder of the Friends of the University Library of Pisa association, created to raise public awareness on the story of the closure of the library itself, owned by the Ministry of Culture, and to urge its reopening to the public in suitable premises.

The news was published today by the newspaper Il Tirreno.
