A man with a machete attacked a police officer in east London.

The emergency services were called to Skelton Road in the Forest Gate area around noon on Sunday.

The Metropolitan Police said the man was believed to be in "a mental health crisis" and officers stayed at the scene to speak to him.

The injured officer is being treated at hospital for a lacerated arm.

According to reports from the BBC, the Independent and other media, his condition is not life-threatening.
