Food prices in Germany are rising and are part of the aftermath of the Ukraine war.

A test purchase from Aldi Süd shows how enormous the increases actually are.

Munich - The effects of the Ukraine war can also be felt in Germany: prices for food and energy are rising.

For the whole of Europe, an increase in the inflationary trend was predicted for 2022.

Even before the Ukraine conflict escalated, prices were noticeably high, not least because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Food and energy prices in particular have been rising since the beginning of the war.

Some food prices are already at record levels.

Most recently, manufacturers warned of a price increase for pasta.

A test purchase from Aldi Süd now showed the extent of the increases.

Supermarket shopping at Aldi: "We are shocked"

The woman told the newspaper that she was worried about what to expect in the coming months.

Only her boyfriend works and earns money.

She doesn't know how the family is supposed to cushion the increased prices.

"We are shocked," she told

BamS

.

"If I extrapolate that to the year, I get sick.

And then no diapers, clothes or petrol have been paid for.”

Discussed in view of the current prices: An emergency regulation in the social code books

In view of the sharp rise in food and energy prices in recent weeks, corresponding adjustments to social benefits have already been called for.

The welfare association Diakonie Deutschland, for example, has been assessing the current situation as worrying for many German households for several weeks.

According to the German press agency, Diakonie Germany is calling for a social emergency regulation that is anchored in the social security code and that provides support for those affected in a national crisis situation - with at least 100 euros a month for six months Loheide sums up the demands of the association so that he actually secures the subsistence level.
