According to the traffic light plans, every employee who is subject to income tax and who is classified in tax brackets 1-5 should receive a one-time gross lump sum of 300 euros.

The traffic light coalition is reacting to the sharp rise in energy and fuel prices* with extensive relief for people in Germany worth billions.

The traffic light relief package includes a flat-

rate energy price allowance of 300 euros.

Who should benefit from this flat rate in the future?

Energy flat rate of 300 euros: who gets the money?

According to the German Press Agency (dpa), the coalition leaders have agreed on this: Every

employee

who is subject to income tax and who is classified in tax brackets 1-5 should receive the one-time gross lump sum of 300 euros.

The

money is paid out by the employer as a salary subsidy

,

for the self-employed the advance tax payment is reduced instead

.

The lump sum is subject to income tax.

If you have a high tax rate, you get less out of it in the end –

if you stay below the basic tax-free allowance, you benefit from the full amount

.

In this way, the middle of society is relieved quickly, unbureaucratically and socially justly, according to the dpa in the traffic light paper.

If pensioners or people with a

tax-free mini-job

should also benefit, the traffic light would have to clarify that, the dpa report continues.

The Parity Welfare Association complained in the "Rheinische Post" (

March 25

) of a "social imbalance".

In a report on

Businessinsider.de (as of March 25)

on the

energy price flat rate mentioned

meanwhile, among other things, it says: "Pensioners, students and others who do not work or earn too little will go away empty-handed." The money is paid out by the employers to their employees.

The companies could then get the amount back from the state.

The Business Insider report goes on to say: "If pensioners, students and others do a midi job (450 to 1300 euros per month), then they also benefit from the protection according to the traffic light government's plans."

Energy price flat rate for employed persons: When will the money come?

Meanwhile, another question remained open, namely

when employed persons should receive the planned energy allowance of 300 euros

.

Nothing is known about this yet, for example the Südwestpresse reported in its online edition (

SWP.de, as of March 24

), but the decision paper states that things should be done "quickly".

"It can be assumed that citizens will have to be patient a little longer," writes the portal.

Businessinsider.de

also reported (as of March 25) that,

according to the decision paper, citizens should receive the money "quickly" - that is, before the end of this year, as the report goes on to say.

Flat rate employee allowance was increased to 1,200 euros

The coalition had previously decided that – in order to support employees in view of the increased energy prices – the

employee allowance

for income tax would be increased by 200 euros

to 1,200 euros, retrospectively from January 1, 2022

.

Regulation on the tax-free Corona bonus will expire soon

Companies that also want to voluntarily give their employees a

corona bonus of up to 1,500 euros

to mitigate the consequences of the pandemic must hurry: the corresponding regulation expires on March 31, 2022.
