Draghi in Algiers sees Tebounne as president for agreement on gas

Prime Minister Mario Draghi has just landed in Algiers to meet with the President of the Algerian Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Before the bilateral event, which will be held in the Presidential Palace at 2.00 pm (ANSA)


(ANSA) - ALGIERS, APRIL 11 - The Prime Minister, MarioDraghi has just landed in Algiers to meet the President of the Algerian Republic, Abdelmadjid Debboune.


    Before the bilateral event, which will be held at the Presidential Palace at 2.30 pm, the premier will visit the Martyr's Monument.


    The premier's mission to Algeria, accompanied by foreign ministers Luigi Di Maio and RobertoCingolani of the ecological transition, aims to sign a first agreement to increase gas supplies from the country which already represents 31% of our imports (second only to Russia) , but is part of a process of relaunching relations between the two countries started after 2019, which saw the visit of Sergio Mattarella last November.


    After the meeting with Tebounne - an opportunity to talk about the intergovernmental summit planned in Algiers in the next few months after the last one in Rome in 2015 - at the presidential palace Draghip will preside over the signing of an intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding on energy and a technical agreement between Eni - in the delegation Italian CEO, ClaudioDescalzi - and Sonatrach, the Algerian energy group, are also present.


    The premier will then move to the Italian embassy in Algeria where he will meet the Italian community: there are about 200 companies with a stable presence in Algeria, engaged in the energy field but also in the sectors of infrastructure and major works.


    To close the visit, a dinner with President Tebboune, after which the premier will return to Italy.
