Several complaints from consumer advocates have now resulted in several flavors of a Maggi product disappearing - they are only available for a short time.

It's not unusual for certain products to disappear from supermarket shelves - there are seasonal chocolate specialities, decorative items vary with the season and even the range of fruit and vegetables can change from time to time.

But products are currently disappearing from supermarkets for completely different reasons.

An important and red-hot reason: Lidl, Kaufland and Co. are throwing Russian goods out of the range*.

But quite apart from that, another product must now give way, as

echo24.de

* reports.

The reason here isn't origin or time of year - consumer advocates had complained about Maggi's finished product, which will soon be completely off the shelves.

As the portal

Lebensmittelklarheit.de

explains, this is the so-called “immune soups” product line.

The name is a deception, argued both the Federation of Consumer Organizations (vzbv) and the North Rhine-Westphalia Consumer Organization.

Lidl/Kaufland: Popular finished product disappears - consumer advocates intervene

Because the title "immune soup" is, according to the vzbv, an "inadmissible health-related claim".

The term "immune" expresses a connection between the consumption of the advertised product and health, especially the function of the immune system, according to consumer advocates.

That's why Maggi received a warning - and promptly signed a cease-and-desist declaration.

The result is that the "immune soups" will gradually disappear from the supermarket shelves at Lidl*, Kaufland* and Co. over the next few weeks.

Because Maggi received a so-called “use by period” for the products.

This means: The immune soups can still be delivered to retailers until March 31, 2022 - so stocks can still be sold before the soup series then disappears completely.

Lidl/Kaufland: "Immune soup" - what's behind the product name

Nevertheless, Maggi doesn't seem to understand - because the food manufacturer explained that the product name is not a "specific health claim".

Rather, Maggi assumes that consumers perceive the information on the packaging as a whole.

Customers would generally understand that the name "immune soup" does not mean that the soup is actually immune-enhancing.

The information relates much more to the added vitamins B12, B6 and C, which are also advertised on the packaging of the "immune soups" as supporting the immune system.

The fact that Maggi gave in to the concerns of consumer advocates so quickly and signed the cease-and-desist declaration without objection does not seem to be the result of insight.

Because, as

Lebensmittelklarheit

further reports, the food company explained that the immune soups have not been produced since the end of 2021 anyway.
