We just heard Riccardo Chailly's best concerts in Lucerne in five years.
It was in 2017 that the Italian conductor had the heavy task of succeeding Claudio Abbado at the head of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, which had been founded for the maestrissimo, in the miraculous acoustics of Jean Nouvel's KKL.
We have always repeated that we should not try to compare the two Milanese, but give Chailly time to make its mark and tame this elite phalanx, whose musicians were united by admiration for Abbado.
