Weather chaos before Easter: Sahara dust could slow down spring

Spring is here, temperatures are well above 20 degrees, but a dense cloud of Saharan dust is approaching Easter weather.

Kassel – Bad news for everyone who was hoping for a sunny Easter in the open air.

After the April weather brought low temperatures and even snow in places in the past few days, the first gentle rays of sunshine give hope for a sunny Easter, but meteorologist Dominik Jung dampens this hope.

"Now it's suddenly getting very warm," said Managing Director Jung of Q.met to wetter.net.

Temperatures will rise to 20 degrees in the coming days.

On Wednesday (04/13/2022) 24 or 25 degrees are also possible in the west and southwest.

“Of course it all depends on the Sahara dust.

It comes to us and ensures that the sunlight is dampened," says the meteorologist.

And the dust from Africa could also put a damper on the weather* at Easter.

Temperatures could drop again at Easter.

Weather experts expect falling temperatures at Easter

Because if the sunlight does not reach the earth unhindered and moisture accumulates on the dust grains, then dense clouds are unavoidable.

Temperatures could drop then.

"Only 21 or 22 degrees at the top - but you have to wait and see," says the weather expert.

The Sahara dust recently caused spectacular discolouration in the sky and blood rain over Germany.

But the spring-like temperatures do not last long.

They could break in as early as Easter and the air could get colder.

The expert expects changeable weather.

Meteorologist Jung did not want to decide whether the outdoor Easter festival would fall into the water - at least for Easter Monday, however, the expert expects a few rays of sunshine.

Despite spring-like temperatures, drivers shouldn't be fooled.

In any case, the winter tires should still be mounted - the rule "O to O"* applies here.

Weather expert Jung gives an outlook and explains: “The bottom line is that April will remain changeable.

The temperatures are riding a roller coaster.” Even the expert has no answer as to why April 2022 will literally do what it wants again.

Weather in April: Changeable weather in Germany at Easter

But April is not as typically changeable everywhere as it is in Germany.

“April is the transition from winter to summer.

We still have a very cold northern Europe.” In southern Europe, however, it is partly warm.

This means that these two air masses face each other in Europe.

Sometimes one air mass wins, sometimes the other.

“As such, April tends to be changeable, with a roller coaster ride of temperatures.

It's particularly strong this year," explains weather expert Jung.

In May and June, the cold air retreats further north and such fluctuations then hardly ever occur.
